Errors may occur when setting up a new AirPod or charging case.
In the upper section, you will find general errors that can affect AirPods and charging cases of all generations.
In the lower section, we will discuss further, generation-specific errors.
Troubleshooting: AirPods of all generations
AirPod cannot be paired despite instructions
Possible causes:
- Firmware incompatibility
- Different generations
- Insufficient battery level during pairing
- Use of a non-original charging case
Possible solution:
- Firmware incompatibility: When following our instructions, make sure that the AirPods charge together in the charging case for at least 20 minutes (better 40-60 minutes) while the charging case is connected to a power source with the lid closed. The AirPods firmware updates automatically during the charging process.
- Wrong generation: Make sure that the replacement AirPod you ordered is from the correct generation. On the product pages, we provide a table with an overview of all compatible models. You can also use our PodFinder to help you determine the replacement device you need. Here you will also find an overview of all the information that exists about the AirPod models produced to date, e.g. model numbers of the individual headphones, the charging case and the set.
- Low battery when pairing: For successful pairing, it is important that the AirPods and the charging case have a certain minimum charge level (at least 50%) so that they can be paired. If the pairing fails at the first attempt, the cause could be insufficient battery power. Repeat the pairing process; the battery level will most likely be sufficient if the devices are connected to a power source.
- Use of a non-original charging case: Only original charging cases can initiate the pairing process. Replica charging cases can be used for two AirPods that have already been paired, but they cannot initiate the pairing of two “foreign” AirPods. Only use an original charging case for pairing. If you no longer have an original charging case, you can borrow one from a friend for the pairing. As soon as the AirPods have been connected, you can use your replica charging case again without any problems.
Should the pairing still fail:
Please observe whether your charging case reacts to inserting / removing the AirPods purchased from us.
The charging case's LED should flash briefly as soon as the AirPod is inserted or removed. If the charging case does not react to the insertion or removal of the AirPod, there may be several possible causes. Please contact us here by email or WhatsApp and send us a photo of the engraving on the lid of your charging case. This engraving helps us to check whether your AirPods are original Apple products and whether the correct generation was ordered.

New AirPod is not recognized by the charging case
Possible causes:
- Presence of a non-original AirPod set
- Defective / worn charging contacts of the charging case
- Use of a non-original charging case
Possible solutions:
- Presence of a non-original AirPod set: Unfortunately, we have to state time and again that very good counterfeits of AirPods are in circulation, which our customers are not aware of. Checking the serial number online at Apple at https://checkcoverage.apple.com can already give an indication of the originality, but this is not enough to definitively determine the originality. Replica AirPods are also equipped with original serial numbers, making it difficult to detect the fraud. Please check with the retailer you purchased your AirPods from: replicas are often sold as used goods through refurbished platforms such as Refurbed, BackMarket or eBay. We will be happy to check the authenticity of your AirPods if you contact us by email or WhatsApp. To do this, send us a photo of the engraving on the lid of your charging case and under the “heads” of your AirPods: Based on the font, font size and quality, we can determine the originality with certainty.
- Defective / worn charging contacts of the charging case: The charging contacts in the charging case where the AirPods are charged can be defective or worn. Cleaning these charging contacts can help to establish the connection to the AirPod. Carefully clean the charging contacts with a cotton swab and, ideally, some rubbing alcohol, let the contacts dry, and then try pairing the AirPods again.
- Use of a non-original charging case: Only original charging cases can initiate the pairing process. Replica charging cases can be used for two already paired AirPods, but cannot initiate the pairing of two “foreign” AirPods. Only use an original charging case for pairing. If you no longer have an original charging case, you can borrow one from a friend to pair them. As soon as the AirPods have been connected, you can use your replica charging case again without any problems.

iCloud & Where's app synchronization issues
Possible causes:
- AirPods reset not fully completed
Possible solution:
- AirPods reset not fully completed: To use iCloud and the Where's app, it is necessary that the AirPods have been removed from all iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, Macs) used in accordance with our instructions. The AirPods must be completely deleted (ignored) here, both from the device and from the iCloud. Go to the Bluetooth settings of your iOS or MacOS device and click on the (i) next to the AirPods. At the bottom of the page, you can ignore the AirPods and remove them from iCloud. After this step has been completed, open the charging case and press the button on the back for about 30 seconds. At the beginning, the LED should pulse white, then red a few times after about 30 seconds, and then white again. The AirPods are now reset to factory settings and can be paired with your devices again. The iCloud connection and Where's App are now being established, but it may take a few hours before the connection can be used properly.
Charging case connects to old AirPod to be replaced
Possible causes:
- Old AirPod to be replaced is still paired and is in the vicinity
Possible solution:
- Old AirPod to be replaced is still paired and is nearby: For a successful pairing, it is necessary that the AirPod to be replaced is not near the set. Place the AirPod as far away as possible from your set so that it cannot interfere with the pairing. Note that the Bluetooth range can be up to 30 meters even in closed rooms.
The microphone of the new AirPod is not working.
Possible causes:
- The microphone from the wrong AirPod is being used.
Possible solution:
- The microphone from the wrong AirPod is being used: In the Bluetooth settings for your AirPods, you can manually select which AirPod's microphone should be used. Please check whether the problem can be solved by changing this setting. Also check whether the problem persists when only the new AirPod purchased from us is inserted into your ear and used for a voice function (call, voice message, voice memo).

Important: If the serial number engraved under the “head” of your AirPods can be checked using Apple's CheckCoverage tool, you are absolutely certain to have counterfeit AirPods. Each AirPod has an individual serial number that is only stored in Apple's internal system. The serial number of a single AirPod can never be checked using Apple's tool; only the serial number of the charging case and the original packaging can be checked here.
- Defective or worn charging contacts on the AirPods: The charging contacts are located at the bottom of each AirPod's shaft. Please check whether the charging contacts look worn and whether the coating has possibly flaked off. Also make sure that the charging contacts are clean. You can use a microfiber cloth and optionally some cleaning alcohol for cleaning.
